    Overview

The construction of the site is at the very preliminary study stage. The region close to Green Island (Ludau) is selected for study due to the fact that the Kuroshio has its strongest current in this area. The first step is to survey the current features in spatial and temporal dimensions, sea floor sedimentation, and local marine spatial planning and management.
From 2019, the preliminary investigations and analysis of ocean current energy and the assessment of the feasibility of utilization in this area were conducted. An ADCP was deployed at the sea bottom for long term monitor. The variation of Kuroshio current near Taiwan are mainly affected by seasonal changes and mesoscale eddies.
Based on the results of hydrodynamic simulation of current and topographic survey, analysis of anchor system stability and spatial distribution, and the distance of cabling pathway and related legal locations, the test site near the southwestern sea area of Green Island will be chosen to be the preliminary planning option.
